If you’ve been searching for a prayer for trusting God because you’re mentally and emotionally exhausted, you’re not alone, and you’re not weak. Life can leave us overwhelmed, anxious, and weary from trying to hold it all together. Whether you’re walking through a divorce, parenting in survival mode, or just trying to get through the day without breaking down, the truth is: trusting God feels a lot harder when you’re at the end of yourself.
I’ve been there.
The only reason I’m standing strong today is that I learned how to trust God with all my heart, even when I didn’t have the strength to stand on my own. Today, I want to share some encouragement, a few simple ways to lean into trust when it feels impossible, and a prayer you can use right now when you don’t know what to say.
What It Really Looks Like to Trust God With All Your Heart
When we read verses like Proverbs 3:5-6:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (ESV)
…it sounds beautiful. But when life is falling apart? When your body is tired and your mind is spinning? It’s hard to know what that actually looks like.
After my divorce, I had nothing left to give. I was emotionally done. I slept every chance I got. I couldn’t think straight, and I definitely couldn’t make big life decisions. But somehow, I started with one thing: a single Bible verse that gave me direction when I didn’t know what to do.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” – Philippians 4:6 (ESV)
That was my anchor. I didn’t have to feel trust; I could practice it.
If You’re Feeling Emotionally and Mentally Done…
Let’s name what’s really going on. You’re not lazy. You’re not broken. You’re exhausted.
And part of that exhaustion is because you’re carrying weight you were never meant to carry.
So many of the women I coach have said to me, “I’m just trying to keep it all together.” But the truth is, God never asked us to hold it all together. He asked us to trust Him with all our hearts.
And here’s something else not enough people talk about: 2020 was a global trauma. Whether you realize it or not, you’re still living in the ripple effects of that season. It changed everything: work, parenting, finances, education, even our faith routines.
So give yourself grace if it feels harder than it should. You weren’t made to go it alone. You were made to walk with God, and to lean on Him, especially when you have nothing left.
3 Simple Ways to Practice Trust When You’re Drained
You don’t need a 5-step Bible study or a new morning routine to begin trusting God again. Start here:
1. Start With What You Do Know
When everything feels uncertain, go back to what is true. God is good. God is faithful. God sees you. Even when you can’t feel it, you can speak it.
2. Don’t Fake Gratitude – Find It
You don’t have to be thankful for the pain, but you can still find something to praise God for. A warm cup of coffee. A text from a friend. A quiet moment. Gratitude softens your heart to trust again.
3. Trade Your To-Do List for a Prayer List
Your brain is tired because it’s trying to solve problems God never asked you to carry. Write it down. “God, I give You this today…” That’s trust in action.
A Prayer for Trusting God (When You Feel Worn Out)
If you don’t have the words today, borrow mine. Let this prayer guide you back to a place of peace.
Prayer for Trusting God
Father, I praise You. You are holy, good, and sovereign. You are my provider, my protector, and the One who sees me in every season. You are faithful even when I feel weak. Thank You for never leaving me, even when my trust has wavered.
I release everything I’ve been trying to control: my future, my finances, my relationships, my schedule, and even the outcome of things I can’t fix. I lay it all at Your feet. I can’t carry this anymore. And I don’t have to. You are strong when I am not.
God, I repent for not always trusting You. For leaning on my own understanding instead of Your truth. I turn my heart back to You today. I choose to trust You, even when I don’t understand. Even when it feels hard. Even when I’m tired. I know You are with me.
I trust You with all my heart. I believe You are working behind the scenes. I believe Your plans are good. I believe Your peace is real, and I receive it now. Help me to rest in You today. Fill my heart with peace that passes understanding. Lead me in the way I should go.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
Final Thoughts
You don’t need perfect faith to pray a prayer for trusting God. You just need a willing heart. Start with what you have. God can work with that. He’s not asking you to be strong—He’s inviting you to let Him be strong for you.
Peace is possible. Even here. Even now.
