Let’s Talk About How to Take Every Thought Captive
Are you tired of feeling stuck in a cycle of negative thinking, self-doubt, and overwhelm? Do you long for a deeper connection with God and a renewed sense of purpose in your life? If so, you’re not alone.
I’m Amy Wadlington, a Christian life coach, and I help women like you break free from the mental battles that keep them feeling unqualified, exhausted, and stuck. And today, we’re diving into something that can truly change everything: how to take every thought captive and align your mind with God’s truth.
If you’ve ever felt like your thoughts were running your life—dictating your emotions, keeping you paralyzed with fear, or leading you into cycles of frustration—you are in the right place.
In this episode, we unpack exactly what it means to take every thought captive (2 Corinthians 10:5) and how you can break free from the lies holding you back.
Let’s dive into the key takeaways from this episode!
The Power of Your Thoughts: What the Bible Says
The way we think affects how we feel, what we do, and, ultimately, the results we see in our lives. This truth is echoed in Proverbs 23:7: “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”
Many of us struggle with intrusive thoughts, anxiety, and self-doubt, believing lies like:
I’m not good enough.
Nothing ever changes.
I don’t have what it takes.
But the Bible makes it clear—we are NOT powerless against these thoughts. We have authority over them.
2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to “take every thought captive to obey Christ.” This means we must be intentional about filtering every thought through the truth of God’s Word instead of letting negativity run unchecked.
How to Take Every Thought Captive: 4 Steps to Renew Your Mind
Want to start taking control of your thoughts and stepping into freedom? Here’s a simple four-step process you can use daily:
1. Recognize Your Thoughts
Pay attention to the thoughts that fill your mind throughout the day. Are they life-giving, or are they full of fear and self-doubt? Awareness is the first step to change.
Colossians 3:2 – “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
2. Replace Lies with Biblical Truth
Negative thoughts will come, but you don’t have to believe them. Instead of accepting the enemy’s lies, replace them with the Word of God.
Ephesians 6:17 reminds us to put on the helmet of salvation—the protection of God’s truth over our minds.
Ask yourself: What does God say about me? Then, declare it over your life. Renew your mind one step at a time.
3. Speak to Your Mountains
Your words have power. Instead of speaking defeat, speak faith. Jesus tells us in Mark 11:22-24 that when we pray, we should believe we have received what we ask for.
Tell your thoughts where to go: “I reject the lie that I’m not good enough.” “I am more than a conqueror in Christ.” (Romans 8:37)
4. Surrender and Trust God
When anxiety creeps in, take a deep breath and surrender it to God. Expect Him to work in your life. Even in the waiting, He is moving.
Romans 12:2 – “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Renewing your mind isn’t a one-time event—it’s a daily practice. Some days will be harder than others, but remember: it’s about progress, not perfection.
