In this latest episode of Her Unraveled Life, host Amy Wadlington delves deep into the transformative power of social rest. As a certified holistic life and health coach, Amy guides Kingdom women on a journey towards inner peace so that they can step fully into who God created them to be. Drawing from her own experiences overcoming trauma, autoimmune conditions, and chronic illness, Amy shares insights and practical tips for embracing healing through rest.
Amy highlighted the importance of rest in various aspects of life, emphasizing that it’s not a waste of time but can actually save time and enhance productivity. She shared her previous beliefs about the need to constantly be busy, but now understands the significance of rest in transforming the mind, healing, and fulfilling one’s divine purpose. Amy also defined two types of social rest: withdrawing from social activities to recharge and seeking out meaningful social interactions that nourish the soul. She noted that many people, especially introverts, often overlook the need for real soul-feeding socialization.
Amy shared her ambiverted nature, stating that her energy levels are affected by the people and situations around her. She discussed her experiences at a convention, where she felt drained by the crowd but rejuvenated by intimate conversations with like-minded women. Amy emphasized the importance of social connections for mental health and productivity, sharing her own realization of the benefits of prioritizing rest and connecting with friends. She acknowledged the challenges of balancing work, family, and personal responsibilities, and the need for specific forms of rest, beyond just physical rest, to combat loneliness and weariness.
Amy emphasized the importance of social rest and the need for intentional nourishing of relationships that uplift and inspire us. She identified three types of friends who can contribute to our social rest: the first responder, the same season friend, and the give me perspective friend. Amy then provided ten practical ways to engage in social rest activities, including fellowship, coffee catch-ups, lunch or dinner dates, weekend getaways, walks with friends, group activities with similar interests, creative activities, scenic drives, inviting friends to one’s home, and collaborating on projects. She encouraged listeners to prioritize nurturing these relationships for overall well-being.
Amy emphasized the importance of rest as a crucial part of our productivity and health. She encouraged the belief that rest is not a waste of time, but a necessary strategy for preventing burnout, enhancing decision-making skills, and refilling our souls. Amy invited listeners to challenge their preconceived notions about rest and to join her free Facebook group, ‘Her Unraveled Life’, for a supportive community of like-minded women on their healing journeys. She also requested feedback on her podcast to better serve her listeners.
Tune in to discover how embracing social rest can lead to healing, empowerment, and a deeper connection with God.
