If you’ve ever wondered how to not feel overwhelmed when life feels like a never-ending to-do list, you’re in the right place. Overwhelm doesn’t mean you’re weak or failing; it often means you’re carrying more than you were meant to carry. In this post, we’ll dive into why you feel overwhelmed, where that pressure is really coming from, and simple steps you can take today to get back to a place of peace and purpose.
Let’s be honest. If you’re anything like me, “overwhelmed” isn’t just a passing feeling — it’s a full-blown zip code you sometimes feel stuck living in.
There’s the house to run, the business to grow, the kids to raise, the groceries to buy, the bills to pay, the dreams to chase… and somehow, you’re expected to do it all with a smile and a Bible verse at the ready.
Friend, if you’ve been feeling like you’re carrying everything and everyone — and if you drop just one ball, the whole thing might come crashing down — I want you to know you’re not broken. You’re just exhausted from trying to do a job that God never asked you to do in the first place.
Today, I want to share with you how to not feel overwhelmed — not by adding more to your plate, but by actually taking things off the way God intended.
You’re not overwhelmed because you’re doing life wrong.
You’re overwhelmed because somewhere along the way, you believed the lie that everything depends on you.
You started hustling, striving, managing outcomes that aren’t yours to manage. And trust me, I’ve been there.
I’ve started three separate businesses — photography, essential oils, and coaching. And every single time, I tried to build my business the way the world teaches: hustle harder, show up more, and push hard until you can’t push anymore.
When God called me to coaching, I thought for sure it would be different because it was very clear to me that it was His calling on my life – I thought for sure that I’d be an overnight success. Spoiler alert: I wasn’t.
I followed every “expert,” I did “all the right things,” I prayed…and I believed. And I even went back to school to get my coaching certification.
And I still barely saw progress.
I was digging and digging—without stopping to check in with God to make sure I was even digging in the right spot.
It wasn’t until I surrendered and made God the CEO of my business that I saw real breakthrough. But by then, the cost of striving had nearly taken me out.
Striving leads to burnout. Trust leads to peace.
So let’s talk about the real issue behind overwhelm—and how to break free.
Here’s the truth:
God didn’t ask you to manage everything.
He asked you to trust Him through it.
The outcome of whatever God calls you to do is His responsibility, not yours.
Your job is simple: obey His instructions, take action, and leave the results to Him.
God isn’t a puppet master — if He were, we’d be like Barbie dolls being moved around without a say. Instead, He invites us to partner with Him.
He gives us the land, the shovel, and the spot to dig. It’s our job to dig. But the well, the water, the results? That’s on Him.
And trust looks very, very different from striving.
If you feel desperate to control everything, you might be battling what’s called the orphan spirit.
The orphan spirit whispers, “It’s all on you. No one’s coming to help. You have to earn love and prove your worth.”
But when you know your identity in Christ — when you know you’re already loved, already chosen, already enough — you don’t need to control every little thing anymore.
Breaking free starts by:
“In the name of Jesus, I come out of agreement with the orphan spirit and into alignment with who God says I am—a child of God. No weapon formed against me shall prosper.”
Freedom comes when you agree with Heaven.
Ready for real-life action you can take right now?
Here’s your overwhelm rescue kit:
Name 5 things you see, 4 things you hear, 3 things you can touch, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste.
It pulls you out of panic and back into the present.
Not the whole house. Just one small area. Create a tiny island of peace.
Ask yourself, “Will this matter in 5 years?” If not, it’s probably not urgent.
Don’t climb the whole staircase. Just find the next step and take it.
Breathe this in:
“It’s not my job to fix everything. It’s my job to trust God with everything.”
Text a friend. Hire a coach. Delegate a task. You were never meant to do life alone.
Sometimes when the world feels loud and heavy, the best thing we can do is run straight to the Word of God. Here are a few scriptures to hold onto when overwhelm tries to steal your peace:
Write them down. Speak them out loud. Post them where you can see them every day.
God’s promises never fail — and His peace is available to you right now.
Friend, you don’t need more time in your day. You need more intention.
When you give God your first fruits—your time, your energy, your trust—He multiplies what you have.
You were never meant to carry the weight of the world. You were meant to partner with the One who already conquered it all.
One step of bravery at a time.
One surrender at a time.
One tiny act of trust at a time.
You don’t have to live overwhelmed. You get to live free.
