How A Few Small Changes Can Help You Break Free From Feeling Stuck
Have you ever felt like you’re just going through the motions? Like life is passing you by, and no matter how hard you try, you can’t seem to make the changes you know you need? Feeling stuck is more common than we like to admit, but here’s the good news—you don’t have to stay there. Breaking free from feeling stuck doesn’t require a major life overhaul. Sometimes, it’s the small, intentional changes that make the biggest difference.
As Alan Watts so beautifully said, “The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.” It’s time to stop sitting on the sidelines, wondering when things will change. Instead, let’s take small, faith-filled steps forward and watch how God works.
5 Steps to Break Free From Feeling Stuck
Step 1: Ask God What’s Next
When you’re feeling stuck, the first and most powerful step you can take is to go to God. Ask Him, “Lord, what’s next for me? What do You want me to do?” Seek guidance from the Holy Spirit. The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 3:6 to “acknowledge Him in all your ways, and He will make your paths straight.” It’s about inviting Him into your journey, trusting that He knows exactly what you need and when you need it.
When you pause and seek God, it shifts your focus away from the overwhelm and onto His plans. Even when things feel unclear, you can trust that He’s working in your favor.
Step 2: Identify Areas for Improvement
After seeking guidance, take a look at your current habits and routines. What’s working? What’s not? Sometimes, the smallest adjustments in our daily lives can lead to the biggest breakthroughs. Through prayer, ask God to show you areas where you can improve—whether it’s spending more intentional time in His word, focusing on your health, or breaking free from negative thought patterns.
Step 3: Set Attainable Goals
Once you’ve identified the areas for improvement, set small, realistic goals. Big dreams are exciting, but if you don’t break them down into manageable steps, they can feel overwhelming. Ask yourself: What’s one thing I can do today that will move me forward? Remember, it’s not about doing everything at once; it’s about consistent progress over time.

Step 4: Build a Support System
We were never meant to do life alone. Surround yourself with people who believe in your potential, who can guide, mentor, and encourage you along the way. Whether it’s family, friends, or a community of like-minded believers, having a strong support system makes all the difference when you’re working toward change.
Consider working with a Christian life coach, someone who can offer personalized guidance, prayer, and accountability as you navigate this new season. A coach can help you identify blind spots and cheer you on as you take steps toward the transformation you desire.
Step 5: Take Action
This might sound obvious, but it’s crucial—take action. You can pray, plan, and dream all day, but nothing changes until you move. Even the smallest step forward is progress. James 2:17 reminds us that “faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action (works), is dead.” So, as you set your goals and build your support system, commit to taking action daily. It doesn’t have to be big, but it does need to be consistent.
10 Additional Changes to Help You Break Free from Feeling Stuck
Create a Morning Routine: Start your day with intention—pray, read your Bible, and set the tone for a productive day.
Get into the Word Daily: Spend time each day reading Scripture. God’s word is a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105).
Journal Your Thoughts and Prayers: Writing down your thoughts, prayers, and reflections can bring clarity and help you see God’s faithfulness over time.
Practice Gratitude: Each day, write down three things you’re grateful for. Gratitude shifts your perspective and helps you focus on the good.
Establish Boundaries: Identify areas in your life where you need boundaries. This could be saying no to overcommitting or limiting distractions like social media.
Prioritize Rest and Self-Care: Rest is essential for our bodies and minds. Make time for activities that rejuvenate you—whether it’s going for a walk, reading a book, or simply resting in God’s presence.
Limit Negative Self-Talk: Replace lies with truth. When negative thoughts arise, capture them and speak God’s promises over your life (2 Corinthians 10:5).
Surround Yourself with Uplifting People: Spend time with those who encourage and inspire you in your walk with God.
Move Your Body: Incorporating physical activity into your daily routine boosts your energy and helps clear mental fog.
Start Small, Stay Consistent: Remember, small changes lead to big results. Pick one or two things to focus on and stick with them.
Breaking free from feeling stuck doesn’t have to be overwhelming. It’s about trusting God with the next step, making intentional changes, and surrounding yourself with people who will lift you up. You’ve got this—and more importantly, God’s got you.
