Sensory rest involves intentionally stepping away from the constant barrage of stimuli we encounter daily. From the hustle and bustle of daily life to the stresses and strains we face, our senses are continuously bombarded, leaving us feeling frazzled and fatigued.
As a Christian life coach, I’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of Biblical sensory rest on my clients’ lives. In fact, by carving out moments of calm and stillness, we can rejuvenate our minds, bodies, and spirits, fostering a deeper connection with God.
Before we dive into how to incorporate biblical sensory rest into your life, it’s important to recognize the signs of sensory overload. Common symptoms include:
• Feeling overwhelmed or anxious
• Difficulty concentrating
• Irritability or mood swings
• Fatigue or exhaustion
• Heightened sensitivity to noise, light, or other stimuli
If you find yourself experiencing any of these symptoms on a regular basis, it may be a sign that your senses are in need of rest and rejuvenation.
Now that we understand the importance of sensory rest, let’s explore some practical ways to incorporate it into your daily routine. Here are ten simple strategies to help you find peace and balance amidst the chaos:
• Turn off all electronics: Give yourself a break from screens and consider unplugging wifi to reduce EMF signals.
• Close your eyes: Shutting out visual stimuli can help your brain relax and recharge.
• Spend time in a quiet room: Find a peaceful space where you can escape from noise and distractions.
• Go out to your car and sit in the quiet: If you can’t find quiet indoors, your car can provide a sanctuary of silence.
• Take a bath: Immerse yourself in warm water to soothe your body and mind.
• Listen to quiet calming music or worship music: Let soothing melodies calm your senses and uplift your spirit.
• Practice deep breathing: Focus on slow, deep breaths to center yourself and relieve tension.
• Journal: Write down your thoughts and feelings to process and release stress.
• Remove toxic fragrances and diffuse relaxing essential oils: Create a calming atmosphere and enhance your sense of relaxation.
• Wear soft, comfortable clothing: Choose clothing that feels good against your skin and helps you feel relaxed and at ease.
Finally, incorporating these simple practices into your daily routine can help you find peace and balance amidst the chaos of life. Whether you take a few moments each day to close your eyes and breathe deeply or treat yourself to a relaxing bath at the end of a long day, prioritizing sensory rest is essential for your overall well-being.

By embracing the right type of rest and incorporating it into our daily lives, we can experience a deeper sense of peace, balance, and connection with God.
