Today, I want to take you on a deep dive into my decision to embrace a keto lifestyle. As a holistic life and health coach, I believe in the power of bio-individuality and finding what truly works for our bodies. This blog post aims to shed light on the key factors that influenced my choice and the tangible benefits I’ve experienced. So, grab a cup of tea, and let’s explore the transformative potential of keto together.
I firmly believe that there’s no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to health. Each one of us is beautifully unique, with different needs and preferences.
That’s why I encourage my clients to explore various dietary theories and find what works best for their bodies and lifestyles. So, please remember, this email is not about persuading you to try keto. Instead, it’s about sharing why I personally chose this path for myself.
This isn’t the first time I have chosen to follow the Keto diet. I did Keto and intermittent fasting for over 2 years and stopped in 2020. If you know my story, you know that in 2020 I lost my fifteen-year career in marketing and if you recall, there was also a global pandemic happening. I decided to give myself a break and lots of grace and stopped eating keto. I was able to maintain the weight I had lost for over a year but then I got really sick and that illness flared my Epstein Barr Virus. For over two years I have been combatting chronic fatigue and chronic inflammation. Weight loss went down my priority list and healing my body through rest, stress management, and nourishment became the top priorities. Making any major changes in your diet, good or bad, can cause stress and with the chronic inflammation, stress wasn’t something my body could handle again… until now.
As a woman in my 40s, weight loss, and dieting don’t look like they did in my 20s. And I am also anti-diet culture and crash dieting. I have done enough yo-yo dieting in my lifetime and I have put that lifestyle behind me for good. I made the decision to take the question, “What do I need to do?” to God. I felt led to do a 3-day bone broth fast… but didn’t know what was coming after that.
After completing my three-day bone broth fast, and seeking guidance through prayer, I found myself drawn back to the keto lifestyle…which worked out well because I was already in ketosis due to fasting. Let me walk you through the key factors that influenced my decision.
Clean Keto Approach
At the heart of my keto journey is a commitment to clean eating. I opt for moderate amounts of healthy fats, balanced protein, and limited carbohydrates sourced mainly from nutrient-rich vegetables and a selection of fruits, with a focus on berries. This clean keto approach ensures that my body receives the nourishment it needs to thrive.
Integrating Intermittent Fasting
To further enhance the benefits of clean keto, I’ve incorporated intermittent fasting into my routine. Intermittent fasting involves cycling between periods of fasting and eating within specific time windows. This approach optimizes metabolic function, promotes fat burning, and supports stable blood sugar levels. It’s a flexible strategy that can be adapted to individual preferences and schedules, providing an additional layer of support for overall well-being and vitality.
Healing from the Inside Out
One of the most remarkable aspects of the keto diet is its potential to support healing from within. By prioritizing whole, nourishing foods and minimizing inflammatory processed foods, keto provides vital nutrients and antioxidants that assist the body’s natural healing processes. By reducing carbohydrates and emphasizing healthy fats, keto can help balance hormones, stabilize blood sugar levels, and alleviate chronic inflammation, which often underlies various health concerns. This healing-oriented approach can benefit organs, tissues, and systems throughout the body, promoting overall wellness and vitality.
