Welcome to the blog, friends! Today, we’re diving into the fascinating concept of creative rest for Christian women, a vital part of holistic health and spiritual growth. I will share some creative rest examples and tips on how to easily incorporate creative rest even if you’re busy. This post is based on my podcast episode from “Her Unraveled Life,” where we explore what Creative Rest is, why it’s important, and how to incorporate it into your daily life. Let’s get started!
Creative Rest is crucial for healing and maintaining overall well-being. Many people think rest is just taking a nap or watching TV all weekend, but there’s so much more to it. Although different types of rest address various needs, Creative Rest is a unique and essential type.
God, the ultimate Creator, designed us with cycles and seasons that help us live abundantly. While God rested on the seventh day after creating the world, we too need to rest to recharge and renew our creative energies. Creative Rest allows our brains to unwind, fostering a sense of awe and wonder that jump-starts our imagination.
How do you know when your creative muscles need a break? Here are some clues:
So, if any of these sound familiar, it’s time to consider incorporating Creative Rest into your routine.
Here are four ways to ensure you get the Creative Rest you need:
Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us that for everything there is a season. Our creativity also follows a natural cycle. For women, this cycle often aligns with the menstrual cycle. We are most creative during ovulation and need rest the week before and during menstruation. For men or those no longer menstruating, there’s still an ebb and flow to creative energy—pay attention to your body and mind to find your rhythm.
Creativity is deeply spiritual. Genesis 1:1-5 illustrates how God transformed chaos into order and light, setting a precedent for us. Creativity allows us to bring light into darkness and order into chaos. Psalm 104:24 says, “How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.” This wisdom in creation inspires us to create with intention and care.
By spending time with the Creator, we draw on God’s wisdom and infuse our creative efforts with His love and truth. As Allen Arnold, author of “The Story of With,” says, “The world has grown cold. It needs warmth from the glow of those who have spent time with the creator.”
Creativity can be incredibly healing. Here are some benefits:
To truly embrace creativity, we must have fun. Approach creativity with the playfulness and wonder of a child. Matthew 18:3 says, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Being childlike in our creativity frees us from fear of judgment and allows us to explore and imagine without constraints.
Our identity isn’t found in what we create but in our relationship with God. Create for His glory, not for applause. If you’re doubting your abilities, remember that curiosity asks, “What if?” Take risks, start small, and trust that God has equipped you with what you need. Matthew 19:26 reminds us, “With God, everything is possible.” And Luke 1:37 says, “For with God, nothing will be impossible.”
Be curious about your talents and giftings. Ask yourself why God gave you these gifts and how you can use them to glorify Him. As Jesus used storytelling to reveal hidden truths, our creativity can bring to light the wonders God has placed within us.
Creativity and self-care go hand in hand. One of the greatest commandments is to love God and love others as we love ourselves. Self-care is not selfish; it’s essential. By taking care of ourselves, we ensure we’re equipped to love and serve others fully. Integrating creativity into your self-care routine can bring joy, reduce stress, and deepen your spiritual connection.
Incorporating creativity into your daily life can be simple and rewarding. Here are some creative rest examples:
The key is to find something you enjoy and make it part of your routine. Creativity can be a powerful tool for relaxation and self-expression.
Creativity isn’t confined to traditional art forms; it can be woven into all aspects of our daily lives. For busy women, finding time for creativity can be challenging but not impossible. Here are some creative rest examples to help get you started even if you lead a busy life:
By integrating creativity into your routines, you can enrich your life, solve problems more effectively, and find joy in everyday tasks.
Creative Rest is essential for renewing and restoring your creative energy. Recognizing the signs that indicate you need creative rest, embracing the spiritual aspect of creativity, and balancing it with self-care are vital steps to holistic health. Remember, God has you on a journey to find who He created you to be. Trust Him, dream big, and embrace your creative journey with Him.
