You know God has called you to impact the Kingdom with your calling but now you feel stuck and just need God to show you how to do what He's asking you to do. Turn the fear of messing it up and the doubt of how to move forward into clarity and confidence with Christian Life Coaching. Let's chat!
Have you ever prayed, “God, I just need to hear You,” and then sat there in the silence, wondering if your words made it past the ceiling?
Maybe you’ve been asking for direction. Clarity. Confirmation that you’re not making a mess of your own life. And instead of peace, all you get is more noise. Every decision feels heavy, every option feels wrong, and somewhere along the way you started to wonder if God simply stopped talking.
Friend, I want to tell you something that changed everything for me.
God isn’t silent nearly as often as we think He is.

More often than not, life has just gotten so loud that we’ve forgotten how to recognize His voice in the midst of it.
That’s what we’re unpacking today, because learning how to hear God isn’t about becoming more spiritual. It’s about learning to slow down long enough to notice He’s already speaking.
Before you assume you’re doing something wrong, let’s name what’s actually happening. If you’re in a season of overwhelm, stress, grief, or plain old busyness, that noise is not a sign that God has gone quiet. It’s a sign that your soul is full.
Think about it like trying to hear someone whisper your name in a crowded room. The voice hasn’t changed. The room got loud.
Overwhelm does that. So does unprocessed grief. So does fear that keeps running the same worst case scenario on a loop. None of that means you’ve lost your connection to God. It means your connection has some competition, and competition can be managed once you know it’s there.
In 1 Kings 19, Elijah had a lot of noise in his life after defeating Jezebel’s prophets. He ran because he was afraid for his life. God did a couple of things here that we should pay close attention to. First, He sent an angel to Elijah under the juniper tree and told him to take a nap. Next, He gave him a snack and some water. Then, after Elijah was well rested and fed, his physical needs were met, and he went for a walk to meet God in a cave.
When Elijah reached the cave, God told him to go stand on the mountain. And what happened next is worth slowing down for. A powerful wind tore into the mountain, strong enough to break rocks apart. God wasn’t in the wind. Then came an earthquake. God wasn’t in the earthquake either. Then a fire. God wasn’t in the fire.
After all of that noise and chaos, there was a gentle whisper. And that’s where God was.
Sit with that for a second. Elijah was surrounded by wind, earthquake, and fire, all the loud, dramatic things we tend to associate with God showing up. But He wasn’t in any of it. He was in the still, quiet voice underneath the storm.
That’s who God is. He is steady. He is calm, even when everything around you is spinning out of control. The chaos in your life is not Him losing control of the situation. He’s not shaken by what’s shaking you.
Then God asked him a question. This is God who knows the end from the beginning, the Alpha and the Omega, King of kings, Lord of lords. God. He knew the answer before He asked it. “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
Notice what God didn’t do. He didn’t rebuke him for running. He didn’t demand Elijah pull himself together in the middle of the storm. No, He let the wind and the earthquake and the fire pass, met him in the whisper, and then asked the question that mattered.
That’s the pattern for us too. Before you can hear God clearly, you may need to walk through the same sequence Elijah did.
Now ask yourself the same question God asked Elijah. What are you doing here? Not as condemnation, but as an honest invitation to name where you actually are, so God can meet you there instead of the version of you that has it all together.
This is the question I hear from women in my coaching practice more than almost any other, and it’s a good one, because how you answer it changes how you respond.
Here’s the truth. Sometimes the enemy is actively working to distract you, discourage you, and disconnect you from God. Scripture is honest about that.
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
That’s John 10:10. It tells us plainly that opposition is real.
But here’s the part we skip past too quickly. We also live in a broken, fallen world where hard things happen simply because we’re human. Not every flat tire, every hard diagnosis, or every sleepless night is a targeted attack. Sometimes life just lifes.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
That’s Romans 8:28, and I want you to notice what it doesn’t say. It doesn’t say God causes every hard thing. It says He works all of it together for good, which means He’s involved either way, whether the enemy is behind it or your circumstances just are what they are.
So which is it? Sometimes it’s warfare. Sometimes it’s just life. And sometimes it’s both at once. Honestly, the answer matters less than you’d think. The real key isn’t diagnosing every hard season with perfect accuracy. The key is staying rooted in Christ regardless of the source, because your authority in Him covers both.
Here’s where I’ll be honest with you, because that’s how I do things around here.
You cannot hustle your way into hearing God more clearly. I know that’s not what you wanted to hear if you’ve been striving, journaling harder, praying longer, and still coming up empty. But hearing God was never a productivity problem.
It’s a relationship problem.
Relationship before revelation. Intimacy before instruction. Before your breakthrough, before your clarity, before the plan you’re so desperate for, God wants you.
Not your five-year plan. Not your polished prayer requests. You.
Most of the women I coach are exhausted because they’re trying to fulfill a calling without that closeness. They’re doing good things, but they’re doing them disconnected from the source, and disconnected effort will always feel heavier than it should. Hearing God gets easier the moment you stop asking “what do I need to do” and start asking “Who do I need to be with?”
Once you shift the goal from striving to closeness, here’s what that actually looks like day to day.
None of this requires a retreat, a sabbatical, or a perfectly quiet house. It just requires intention.
Here’s something most people miss. Rest isn’t just good for your body. It’s what positions you to actually hear God in the first place.
I learned this the hard way. There was a season where I was so focused on building what God called me to build that I stopped resting in any of these ways, and my body started paying the bill through health flares I couldn’t ignore. Rest isn’t weakness. It’s obedience, and it’s often the missing piece between you and a clearer connection with God.

A few years ago, I sat on a beach in Florida during what looked like a peaceful moment but felt like anything but. Internally, I was barely holding on. I saw a vision of myself standing on a jagged rock at the edge of the ocean, wave after wave slamming into me, knocking me down again and again.
And I heard God say, “When you’ve done all else, stand.”
I used to think that meant strength. It didn’t. It meant endurance. Some seasons aren’t about winning. They’re about remaining, rooted in Him, even when standing costs more than it used to.
That vision reshaped how I understood every hard season since, including the ones where I couldn’t hear God clearly at all. I wasn’t disconnected. I was just standing in the waves, and He was closer than I realized.
Hearing God isn’t reserved for pastors, prophets, or people who have their whole life figured out. It’s the natural result of walking closely with Him, one small, ordinary moment at a time.
If life has gotten loud, don’t assume God has stopped speaking. Slow down enough to recognize the voice that’s been calling your name the entire time.

How do I know if God is speaking to me? God typically speaks through Scripture, a settled peace, wise counsel, and impressions that align with His character. If what you’re sensing contradicts the Bible, it isn’t from Him, so always test it against Scripture first.
Why can’t I hear God right now? Usually it’s not that God has gone silent. It’s that overwhelm, stress, or busyness has made it harder to notice His voice. Creating quiet space and slowing down is often the first step to hearing Him again. Sometimes He is silent – I have heard others say, “Teachers are always silent during the test.” Sometimes when you can’t hear Him, it’s just a season of testing. But know this: if you are in a season of testing, there is likely a season of promotion coming next. This is the time when you “expand your tent pegs.” Get into the Word, pray, heal your mind and body. Prepare.
Is God’s silence a bad sign? Not necessarily. Seasons of quiet can be an invitation to deeper trust rather than a sign of distance. God often uses these seasons to grow your faith beyond needing constant confirmation. You can ask yourself if there is sin, unforgiveness, or something coming against you. If, so, pray, repent, forgive… do the work.
How do I know if it’s spiritual warfare or just a hard season? Sometimes it’s one, sometimes the other, and sometimes both at once. Rather than trying to diagnose it perfectly, stay rooted in Christ and use your authority in Him either way.
How long does it take to hear God clearly again? There’s no set timeline, since it depends on your season and how much noise needs to clear. Consistent time in Scripture, prayer, and rest tends to speed up that clarity.
