Do you ever wonder how to overcome imposter syndrome even when fear has a hold on you? You feel the call. You know God placed something specific in your heart — a business, a ministry, a message, a dream. But right on cue, that voice shows up:
“Who do you think you are?” “You’ve failed before. What makes this time any different?” “Someone else could do this so much better.”
If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone — and you’re not disqualified. What you’re experiencing is imposter syndrome, and it keeps so many Christian women stuck right on the edge of everything God has for them.
Today, we’re pulling back the curtain on how fear and imposter syndrome really operate — physically, mentally, and spiritually — and I’m sharing five practical ways to move through it so you can finally walk in the calling God designed just for you.
Here’s something I don’t talk about enough: my fear started young.
I remember the first time I stood up at a roller skating rink, wobbly on those skates, and immediately grabbed the wall and said, “I can’t do this.” Same thing when I learned to ride a bike. Same thing when someone offered me new food to try — before I even tasted it.
It wasn’t really about skating or bikes or food. It was about control.
My parents divorced when I was two, and looking back, I think that planted a deep need to control outcomes. If I said “I can’t” first, I didn’t have to risk failing. Fear became my safety net.
Sound familiar?
That pattern of shrinking back doesn’t stay in childhood — it follows us into our businesses, our callings, and our faith. And learning to recognize it is the first step in learning how to overcome imposter syndrome for good.
Here’s what surprised me when I started coaching: I thought once things started working, fear would go away.
It didn’t. It just looked different.
First it was fear of failure — “I’ve tried things before and they didn’t work out. I start and never finish.”
But then clients started showing up. Lives were being transformed. God’s hand was all over it. And suddenly fear had a new script: fear of success.
“What if I can’t handle the growth?” “What if I don’t steward the money well?” “What if it gets too big and I can’t manage it?”
Fear will tell you not to start because you’ll fail — and then tell you not to grow because you might succeed.
That’s why trusting God, not your own plan or control, is the real key. Proverbs 3:5–6 says it perfectly:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Imposter syndrome thrives in the gap between what you can see and what God already knows. Faith closes that gap.

To overcome imposter syndrome, you have to understand that it doesn’t just live in your head. It affects you on three levels — and you need to address all three.
When fear shows up, your body goes into fight, flight, or freeze mode. Heart racing. Stomach in knots. Shoulders up to your ears. Your nervous system is trying to protect you, but when it gets stuck in that state, it drains your energy and blocks your peace.
Philippians 4:7 promises “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” But you can’t receive that peace when your body is still running on high alert.
Nervous system regulation — breathing, stretching, rest, stepping outside — isn’t laziness. It’s stewardship. When your body is calm, you can hear God clearly again.
Imposter syndrome starts as a whisper — “What if this doesn’t work?” — and becomes a loop you replay until it feels like truth.
But 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to “take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ.”
When your mind says “I’m not enough,” you can counter with “I am chosen, called, and equipped.” When fear says “You’ll mess this up,” you can declare “God’s grace covers me even when I don’t have it all figured out.”
Taking your thoughts captive actively breaks the mental cycle of self-doubt.
Here’s what a lot of people miss: fear is a spirit.
2 Timothy 1:7 is clear — “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.”
Fear isn’t from God. It’s an assignment from the enemy meant to keep you small.
Many believers bind the spirit of fear but never renew their minds or regulate their bodies — and wonder why freedom doesn’t last. Real freedom happens when your spirit, mind, and body are all aligned under God’s authority.
Here’s the practical part. These are the exact steps I’ve used — and walk my coaching clients through — when fear and imposter syndrome try to take over.
Faith doesn’t mean pretending you’re not scared. It means being honest with God about it.
Psalm 34:4 says, “I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.”
You can’t conquer what you’re unwilling to confront. Name it, surrender it, and invite God into it.
When fear hits, pause. Breathe. Invite the Holy Spirit into that moment. Say out loud: “Peace, be still.”
That same authority Jesus used to calm the storm in Mark 4 lives inside you. You simply cannot move forward in faith when your body is still in survival mode.
When the old tapes start playing — “You failed before. You’re not qualified. This won’t work” — answer them with Scripture.
Isaiah 41:10: “Do not fear, for I am with you; I will strengthen you and help you.”
Renewing your mind means deliberately replacing fear’s lies with God’s truth, over and over, until truth becomes louder than the doubt.
There is no shortcut here. At some point, you have to take the step.
When I started my business, launched my podcast, and hit record on my first video — I didn’t feel ready. Not even close. But every single time I obeyed, God met me there.
Fear doesn’t fade first. Faith rises first.
Deuteronomy 31:8 says, “The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”
God is already in the room you’re afraid to walk into. He’s preparing the way, protecting your heart, and surrounding you with grace before you even take the step.
I want to share a story that stopped me in my tracks.
Juan-Elias Riesco owned a restaurant in Chicago called Nini’s Deli. In 2020, when cultural pressure was at a peak, he refused to renounce his faith. He stood firm.
He lost everything — his business, his reputation, his home. He had to move to another state.
But God wasn’t done.
Today, Juan runs a ministry that supports women who choose life — paying for childcare, providing food, throwing baby showers. Since he started, over 70 babies have been saved.
Seventy lives, because one man chose faith over fear.
When you choose courage, God steps in. The ripple effect of your obedience is bigger than you can see right now.

Maybe it’s starting the business. Sharing your story. Launching the ministry. Leading the group. Writing the book.
Whatever it is — you don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to trust that God goes before you.
You are not behind. You are not disqualified. You are being refined.
And real peace — the kind that lasts — isn’t the absence of fear. It’s the presence of God.
If you’re done letting imposter syndrome steal your calling, I’d love to walk with you.
